Location and contact information

Our gallery "Russian Icon" is located in the capital of Estonia, - Tallinn. Tallinn is one of few European cities, with perfectly preserved medieval historical part; and we are just there, in that area, called "old town".

The street, where our building is situated is called "Vene", i.e. "Russian". This is an important historical through-passage, going from old market to the port. The shores of harsh Baltics have been familiar to the Novgorod and Pskov merchants since the ancient times. From the age of Yaroslav the Wise traders came here. There where we are now, used to be a trade court, built around 1030. And in 1420 in our street was built a church of Saint Nicholas. This is a masterly built church, created in the best traditions of national architecture, and history of this temple reflects the centuries-old history of Orthodox Christianity in Estonia . In 16th century thanks to the trade court and a church, the street was assigned a name “Vene” – "Russian".

Our building was constructed in 19 th century in a classical style. The first owner of the house was Girard de Soucantonile, one of the elders of the Baltic countries.

Undoubtedly, You it will be an interesting and pleasant experience for You to visit our gallery and the church of Saint Nicholas.
