"Body Cross"

XVI-XVII centuries. Moscow reg., Serpukhov district.
Size: 20x13 mm
Technique & Material: Copper alloy, casting.

Description: Four - ended cross. Rectangular vanes have embossed boards. On the front side cross has a convex image of seven-ended cross of Calvary with a wreath (!) in the middle-cross. Also cross has the image Chapter Adam's in a cave.

Instead the "the cross-head" the cross has the through channel for threading cord.

Analogy. Not identified. The iconography of the cross has parallels between wooden, pectoral bone, and body crosses of the XVI-XVII centuries. (Nikolaeva, TV, 1960, № 146, 147; Sedov, MV, 1997, Fig. 13, 4, Wexler A., Berkowitz, VA, 1999, Fig. 18, 6).
